Honda Code RC09 or RC091

Question:

Hi, I have a Honda Magna but my VIN number is RC091001587, I want to know if you can help me to descifer [decipher] my VIN year, model, motor, etc because it is rare I can not find information to this bike... sorry about my bad inglish, I try... jaja thanks a lot for your help. {Demian, Venezuela - Unknown Honda Magna}

Answer:

We do not have a lot of information on the South American issued Hondas. From what I can determine, the first four or five digits of your VIN RC09 or RC091, is the Honda vehicle description code designation for a Magna 750, VF750CC or VF750E. They were manufactured in the 1980s and sold throughout South America.

The last six digits are most likely the sequential production number. Your bike is probably the 1,587th produced.

Honda did not use this vehicle description code on US models. So we do not have parts fiche or production information for your bike.

It seems curious to me that any manufacturer would use CC as part of a motorcycle name, since cc or CC usually refers to cubic centimeters of displacement. It the US we have Honda Shadows referred to as C2 models. The VT750C2 Shadow Spirit for example. This eliminates any confusion.

I was able to locate an Original Equipment Manufacturer {OEM} parts supplier for your Magna. They are CMS Japanese Motorcycle Supply. Their web site has online parts fiche and schematics of many Magna 750 models including those sold in France, Germany, Switzerland, England and Belgium, as well as those designated as General Export. Machines sold in Venezuela are probably in the General Export group.

The CMS FAQ page lists RC09 under the Honda identification by Model Codes question.

I found a few of these bikes for sale in South America on Motonet.tv, Motonet.cl and mercadolibre.com.

I do not think that there is a large difference between the bike you have and Magnas sold here in the States. The biggest difference I usually see in foreign models is the emissions systems.
